What’s new in the city of San Ramon? Plenty! San Ramon is bubbling with building, renovating, and improving. Here is a sampling of what’s going on around here, and why this is the place to be!
City Center Update – According to those in the know, the big City Center project is still in the works. Yes, we’ve been hearing that for quite some time now, however the owner of the land, Sunset Development, is approaching this plan in a very logical manner. In our uncertain economy, they want to avoid a debacle like Sunnyvale’s downtown. Some of the groundwork has been done, including the additional exit lane at the northbound Bollinger Canyon Road offramp. The utilities have been mostly been laid and prepared, and Bollinger Canyon Road has been widened. There is a 4 story parking structure in place off Camino Ramon in anticipation of the City Center and its parking requirements. At this time, the plan is to complete the project in 3 phases. Phase one would be the Office District. The second phase would be the Plaza District, home to retail, some residential condos, and restaurants (ala Santana Row)
The third phase would be the Civic District, which will house a new transit center and city hall. When, you ask? If economic conditions continue to improve, things could start in late 2014.
The Iron Horse Trail through Bishop Ranch will be getting some improvements starting in May of 2013, to include new benches and some trellises. Getting out on your lunch hour for some fresh air and exercise is going to be a lot more appealing!
There is a new park coming to town! It is to be called Rancho San Ramon Community Park and the Amador Rancho Center. It will be located on new Dougherty Road/Service Center Road, past the Dougherty Station Community Center. This will be a 30 acre park and is to begin construction in early 2013. The first phase will include a 10K square foot multipurpose rec center, 2 lit synthetic turf fields for lacrosse and soccer, a lit baseball field, 2 full size grass soccer fields, 4 playgrounds, a group picnic area, tennis court, outdoor stage, and even a water feature. The hope is to open summer of 2014.
Athan Downs Park, located off Montevideo, is undergoing a playground renovation, and should be completed very soon. It will feature equipment for children of all ability levels, and for those with physical and developmental disabilities. It was thoughtfully designed with the help and feedback from staff and families within our school district who work with children with all types of disabilities. The estimated cost is $500K.
