As a seasoned realtor in the San Ramon Valley, I consider each new real estate transaction to be a blank canvas. Until the deal closes, it is not known what this finished canvas will look like. What colors will it reveal? How about texture and depth? Maybe it will turn out to be a sculpture! One thing I know for sure – the most important artistic tool to utilize would be: Perspective
It is often said that no two snowflakes are alike. This is also true of real estate. Each transaction contains a nebulous combination of personalities, histories, wants, traditions, requirements, limitations, and emotions. Our world is getting smaller and more diverse, therefore understanding the client’s emotional status and creating a connection with their personal circumstances has been key. Not all clients can be painted with the same brush!
Experience has proven that it is all about the art of listening. Whether buying or selling real estate, there are wants and needs that have to be uncovered in order conduct a smooth transaction. What are the timelines? What is the client hoping for? What are the must have’s and the must not haves? Sometimes a client’s wishes and needs are only revealed when a challenge comes up during the transaction. And sometimes clients are very open and forthcoming from the first meeting. It’s a dance of sorts during these interactions. It requires observation, finesse, grace, instinct, and being able to ask the right combination of questions.
Real estate transactions benefit not only from acknowledging the clients perspective, but ensuring that they are made aware of and have an understanding of all the steps in the process, especially when it comes to changes and updates. Some are comfortable and fully expect every ounce of information with hourly updates while others simply feel overwhelmed and frazzled by too much information. It’s important to know what the client expects.
My goal is to get my clients into a home that they love. I achieve this by listening, and truly hearing what they are asking for and capable of. We’ve all had business dealings where we feel that we haven’t been heard or listened to. Yet we have also had dealings where we felt totally understood, and where everything clicked. I have had many clients that have expressed their relief, after having bad experiences with other realtors. This is one of the most expensive and emotional purchases we make in our lifetimes. It requires understanding and connection.
