New year places to go and things to do in San Ramon
Here we are in January- a new year has begun! There’s something about the flip of that particular calendar page that gives us the feeling of hope, starting fresh, starting over, and doing better.
As we all know, the top New Year’s pledge involves losing weight and having a healthier lifestyle. To avoid what happens with most pledges that fail before the month is out, there has to be a long term commitment. Our habits will have to change. Many experts say that it takes 21 days for a new habit to form. Perhaps it is wise to set goals that are more attainable. Take smaller easier steps that are more likely to be successful and keep us optimistic.
Eating less and exercising more is the basic way to better health. The San Ramon Valley has a great variety of health clubs, and exercise classes to suit nearly everyone.

San Ramon is also a great city for exercise. Its many parks, and clean safe streets and sidewalk are well used by walkers, walkers with dogs or strollers, and bikes.
Eating better is getting easier too! Enjoying a local farmers market does a few very good things. It gets us out of the house, and walking around, and actually interacting with others. Before visiting a farmers market, consider how to store your purchases – Try to only purchase what can realistically be consumed before the produce goes bad; or set out some freezer bags or containers if buying in bulk. Here are a few of the Farmers Markets in our area, taking place on Saturday or Sundays each week:
Danville – Railroad and Prospect Avenue,
Dublin – Tassajara Road and Central Parkway,
Pleasanton – Main Street and West Angela Street,
Castro Valley – Castro Valley BART Station, Redwood Road & Norbridge
