San Ramon Neighborhoods, What You Need To Know

San Ramon NeighborhoodsThought we would do a rundown and review of some of the various neighborhoods found in San Ramon. Even if you have lived here awhile, there is always something new to be learned about our fair city!

The Twin Creeks/Bollinger Hills area of San Ramon: This section of San Ramon, located off Bollinger Canyon and Crow Canyon Roads, was built in the 70’s and 80’s by Dame Homes. The home styles here are primarily contemporary or traditional, and the lots run a bit larger – 6-13K sq ft. The landscaping and trees are mature here, and many of the lots have lovely views. This area consists of attached and detached homes, and some apartments, where joggers, walkers and strollers enjoy their safe, clean, and well maintained streets, sidewalks and public parks. Home Depot and Costco are only two of the businesses nearby.

South/Central San Ramon This area was built up during the 60’s and the 70’s, by builders like Shapell and Crocker, while San Ramon was still the Bay Areas best kept secret. This area is located between San Ramon Valley and Alcosta Boulevards with Montevideo and Pine Valley running through the middle. The lot sizes here run a little larger than some, and styles are mostly contemporary or traditional. There are beautiful mature trees in this part of San Ramon. An addition of a Walmart Neighborhood Market off Village Parkway this week will make living in this neighborhood even more convenient!

Norris Canyon Estates. Emerge into exclusive country living featuring rolling hills, stately oak trees, and homes by Toll Brothers Luxury Builders. These traditional style estate homes sit on 1/3 to ½ acre lots and most have between 3500 -5500 square feet of living space. Norris Canyon Estates boasts a secluded location off Norris Canyon Road just a short drive from the many conveniences San Ramon has to offer.

On the eastern side of San Ramon, we have Windermere, where builders include Lennar, Brookfield, and Centex. This is a newer master planned community with attached and detached homes as well as apartments. This neighborhood is very family oriented, offering plentiful parks, sports fields, and miles of walking trails. The lot sizes tend to run about 5 – 8K sq ft, and styles are Spanish, Mediterranean, and Contemporary. There is a newer community center and library in this area as well.

Gale Ranch is located on the east side of San Ramon, east of Dougherty Valley Road, and is also a master planned community. The lot sizes are usually 3-8K square feet with a mix of home sizes here including detached, attached, and apartments. There are also a number of luxury homes on larger lots to be found here. It has its own shopping center, The Plaza at Gale Ranch, which boasts a flagship Safeway with gas station, coffee shops, restaurants, dental offices, and many other conveniences.

Bridges is also a Master Planned Community within the Gale Ranch area. It started building in 1998 and was completed in 2003 by Shapell Builders. There are apartments, plus attached and detached homes available here in a variety of sizes. Styles are often Spanish or Mediterranean. It is built around the Johnny Miller designed “Bridges Golf Course” a full service, 73 par course complete with bar, restaurant, and proshop.

There is a new development by KB homes called Quail Ridge that is starting to go up. This one is on San Ramon Valley Blvd at the Danville border. The homes will range in size from 1600-2100 square feet. They are hoping to have models open for viewing by January of 2013.

The new San Ramon City Center is still in the works, and it promises to be spectacular, with retail, office, and residential space planned down in the Bishop Ranch 2 area. Economic trends have pushed this project back until possibly 2015, so this gives us a lot to look forward to here in San Ramon no matter which neighborhood you are in.
