It’s Halloween in San Ramon!

Halloween is celebrated in various forms all over the modern world. It is fun for children and adults, a day full of chills and thrills, and way too much candy! It can involve private religious observance as well as public exhibitionism, and combines imagination with mass marketing. This week, don’t be surprised if the car next to you is driven by a werewolf. Or if a stroller is being pushed down the neighborhood sidewalk by a clown. However, as the all important night approaches, a very somber question is on the minds of many of us here in San Ramon: Do ghosts and zombies depreciate home values and slash neighborhood appeal?

Ordinarily, perhaps. But in the spirit of the season, they should be considered a real benefit! Yessiree, those little trick or treaters are a very good sign. Residents here know that San Ramon is a veritable cauldron of good safe neighborhoods for all the youngsters to collect their goodies. Folks from all over are realizing the frighteningly long list of treats San Ramon has to offer, including its award winning school system, large corporate park, safe clean parks and streets, ease of commuting and close proximity to shopping and amenities, the Silicon Valley and San Francisco. Here we are experiencing wicked demand and fearfully low inventory of homes for sale.

Trick-or-treating evolved from the ancient Celtic tradition of putting out treats and food to placate spirits who roamed the streets at Samhain, a sacred festival that marked the end of the Celtic calendar year. The living would often disguise themselves in scary costumes so the spirits of the dead would be tricked into thinking they were one of their own and pass by without causing harm. The masked villagers would also form parades to lead the spirits out of town limits. And speaking of town limits, one of the most popular San Ramon neighborhoods for trick-or-treating is Norris Canyon Estates. It is so popular, local legend has it, that the residents often fill a shopping cart to the brim with Halloween candy, and hope they don’t run out before the doorbell stops ringing! This neighborhood in western San Ramon is located off Norris Canyon Road in a private, secluded, oak studded development. These homes by Toll (Troll?) Brothers builders are situated on larger lots, and these larger estate style homes offer exclusive luxury just a few minutes drive from all the bewitching amenities San Ramon has for its residents.
